CALVI DELL UMBRIA: The pilot site of the Art Monastery is in the ex-Ursuline Monastero di S. Brigida in Calvi dell’Umbria. As renovations near completion, the nearby Casale S. Brigida functions as the offices and guesthouse of the Art Monastery Project. Once several of the artists move into the monastery, hopefully in June 2009, the Casale S. Brigida will continue to function as the guesthouse and the dining hall, ensuring that anyone who wishes to come to the Art Monastery to learn is welcomed as well as fostering a mutually beneficial interaction with the artists and scholars of the Art Monastery.
ARTIST RESIDENCIES & PROJECTS may be proposed by joining the Art Monastery’s Artist Network. There are several different types of residencies and projects. Although we strive for this in the future, the Art Monastery is currently not a funding institution for either. We do, however, have substantial resources to enable artists and scholars who would like to come here to develop their own work or realize a larger, collaborative project:
-rooms in beautiful locations surrounded by other inspiring artists
-access to gorgeous rehearsal, performance, and exhibition spaces in Calvi and Rome
-chef-prepared healthy Italian meals
-an international network of inspiring artists and scholars
-a functioning office to promote and market projects
-a web of contacts to Italian venues, festivals, funding institutions, curators, and promoters
